Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.
Platinum agents are a class of chemotherapy medicines built around a platinum atom: they bind DNA and cross-link its strands, so cancer cells cannot copy it and die. The class includes cisplatin, carboplatin and oxaliplatin, used for testicular, ovarian, lung, bladder, bowel, head and neck and many other cancers. This page collects studies on platinum agents as a group.
Studies of the class as a whole have looked mostly at DNA repair genes, which help cells mend platinum damage: XRCC1 (its rs25487 variant has the strongest rating here), ERCC1, ERCC2, ERCC4 and ERCC5, and at the copper transporters SLC31A1 and ATP7B that move platinum in and out of cells, for response and side effects. The findings often disagree between studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
