DPP-4 inhibitors (gliptins) are a class of diabetes medicines that block the enzyme that breaks down incretins, gut hormones such as GLP-1 that make the pancreas release insulin after a meal. The class includes sitagliptin, linagliptin, saxagliptin, alogliptin and vildagliptin. They lower blood sugar modestly with little risk of low blood sugar or weight gain. This page collects studies on DPP-4 inhibitors as a group.
Studies of the class looked at CDKAL1, a type 2 diabetes gene, and at the CTRB1/CTRB2 region, linked in a large study to a weaker blood-sugar response to gliptins. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
