Dexlansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), the active mirror-image half of lansoprazole, in a capsule that releases the medicine in two stages to cover more of the day. It switches off the pumps in the stomach lining that release acid, and is used for heartburn, acid reflux and to heal and maintain healing of erosive oesophagitis. It is sold as Dexilant.
Dexlansoprazole is broken down mainly by the liver enzyme CYP2C19. Intermediate and poor metabolizers keep it in the blood longer, with higher exposure; the US FDA lists an effect on drug levels. CPIC has published a guideline on CYP2C19 and the PPIs, which includes dexlansoprazole with an optional-strength recommendation. Only a few studies have looked at other genes.
Clinical guidelines that name a gene for Dexilant. They sort people into groups by the gene copies they carry.

PharmGKB weighs all studies of a variant and rates how strong the evidence is, from 1A (strongest) to 4.
