Vindesine (Eldisine)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Vindesine

What it is

Vindesine is a semi-synthetic vinca alkaloid derived from vinblastine. It blocks the assembly of microtubules, so dividing cells cannot separate their chromosomes. It has been used in Europe and Japan for some leukaemias, lymphomas and lung cancer, and is not marketed in the US. It was sold as Eldisine.

How genes come into it

Vindesine is broken down mainly by CYP3A4 and pumped out of cells by ABCB1. The gene study listed looked at ABCB1 for side effects. The evidence is weak, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
