Anti-VEGF Agents (class)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Anti-VEGF Agents

What it is

VEGF and VEGFR inhibitors block the signal blood vessels use to grow. In cancer, antibodies such as bevacizumab and ramucirumab and tablets such as sunitinib, axitinib and lenvatinib cut off tumours' blood supply; in the eye, injections of ranibizumab, aflibercept, faricimab and bevacizumab stop leaky new vessels in wet macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease. This page collects studies on the group as a whole.

How genes come into it

The gene studies listed for the group looked at VEGFA and TRIB1 for response. Gene findings for individual medicines are on their own pages: VEGF pathway genes for the cancer medicines, and CFH, ARMS2 and VEGFA for the eye injections. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

What research found

Response (2 findings)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

VEGFA rs699947: Genotypes AC + CC is associated with increased response to VEGF/VEGFR (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) inhibitors in people with Macular Degeneration as compared to genotype AA.

TRIB1 rs4351379: Genotypes CC + CG is associated with decreased response to VEGF/VEGFR (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) inhibitors in people with Macular Degeneration as compared to genotype GG.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
