Pertussis Vaccine

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Pertussis Vaccine

What it is

Pertussis vaccines protect against whooping cough. Today's acellular vaccines contain purified parts of the Bordetella pertussis bacterium and are given combined with diphtheria and tetanus vaccines (DTaP for children, Tdap for adolescents and adults); vaccinating during pregnancy protects newborns in their first months.

How genes come into it

The gene studies on pertussis vaccines looked at TLR4, a receptor of the innate immune system that recognises bacterial components, for the strength of the antibody response after vaccination. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

What research found

Every published finding on gene variants and Pertussis Vaccine. Upload your DNA file to see which of these rows apply to you.

Rated evidence (2 rated variants)

PharmGKB weighs all studies of a variant and rates how strong the evidence is, from 1A (strongest) to 4.

TLR4 rs4986790: Level 3. Efficacy. 1.

TLR4 rs2770150: Level 3. Efficacy. 1.

Response (2 findings)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

TLR4 rs2770150: Genotype GG is associated with decreased response to Pertussis vaccines in children as compared to genotype AG.

TLR4 rs4986790: Genotype AA is associated with increased response to Pertussis vaccines in children as compared to genotypes AG + GG.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
