Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Menopur

What it is

Menotropins (human menopausal gonadotropin, hMG) is a mixture of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinising hormone (LH) purified from the urine of postmenopausal women. Injected, it stimulates the ovaries to grow follicles in fertility treatment such as IVF. It is sold as Menopur.

How genes come into it

As protein hormones, menotropins are not handled by drug-processing enzymes. The gene studies on it looked at FSHR, the gene for the FSH receptor: its common Asn680Ser variant (rs6166) was linked in some studies to how strongly the ovaries responded and how much hormone was needed. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

Rated evidence (3 rated variants)

PharmGKB weighs all studies of a variant and rates how strong the evidence is, from 1A (strongest) to 4.

FSHR rs6166: Level 3. Dosage. 1.

FSHR rs6166: Level 3. Dosage: Infertility disorder. 1.

FSHR rs6166: Level 3. Efficacy: Infertility disorder. 1.

Response (2 findings)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

FSHR rs6166: Genotype CT is associated with decreased response to follitropin beta, menotropins, thyrotropin alfa and urofollitropin in women with Infertility as compared to genotypes CC + TT.

FSHR rs6166: Genotype CC is associated with increased dose of follitropin beta, menotropins, thyrotropin alfa and urofollitropin in women with Infertility as compared to genotypes CT + TT.

Other findings (1 finding)

Studies that do not fall into the groups above.

FSHR rs6166: Genotype CT is associated with decreased dose of menotropins in women as compared to genotype CC.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
