Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About hCG

What it is

Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is a pregnancy hormone that acts on the same receptor as luteinising hormone. Injected, it is used in fertility treatment to trigger the final maturation and release of eggs, to treat some cases of undescended testes in boys and low hormone levels in men. It is sold as Pregnyl, Novarel and Ovidrel, among other names.

How genes come into it

As a protein hormone, hCG is not handled by drug-processing enzymes. The gene study listed looked at FSHR, the FSH receptor gene, for the amount of hormone needed in fertility treatment. The evidence is weak, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

Rated evidence (1 rated variant)

PharmGKB weighs all studies of a variant and rates how strong the evidence is, from 1A (strongest) to 4.

FSHR rs6166: Level 3. Dosage. 1.

Dosing (1 finding)

Studies of how much of the drug people needed or tolerated.

FSHR rs6166: Genotype CC is associated with increased dose of gonadotropin, chorionic in women as compared to genotype CT.
