Flunisolide (AeroBid)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Flunisolide

What it is

Flunisolide is a corticosteroid used as an inhaler for asthma (AeroBid, Aerospan) and as a nasal spray for allergic rhinitis. Like other inhaled steroids, it calms inflammation in the airways, and the liver clears most of what is swallowed.

How genes come into it

Flunisolide is broken down quickly by the liver, mainly by CYP3A4. The gene studies listing it came from studies of inhaled steroids in asthma and looked at GLCCI1 and TBXT for how much lung function improved. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

What research found

Every published finding on gene variants and Flunisolide. Upload your DNA file to see which of these rows apply to you.

Rated evidence (2 rated variants)

PharmGKB weighs all studies of a variant and rates how strong the evidence is, from 1A (strongest) to 4.

TBXT rs2305089: Level 3. Efficacy: Asthma. 1.

GLCCI1 rs37973: Level 3. Efficacy: Asthma. 1.

Response (1 finding)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

TBXT rs2305089: Genotype TT is associated with increased response to flunisolide in people with Asthma as compared to genotypes CC + CT.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
