Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Cephalexin

What it is

Cefalexin (cephalexin) is a first-generation cephalosporin antibiotic taken by mouth, which blocks bacteria from building their cell wall. It is widely used for skin and soft tissue infections, urinary tract infections, strep throat and bone infections. It is sold as Keflex, among other names.

How genes come into it

Cefalexin is not broken down; it is absorbed by the gut peptide transporter and cleared unchanged by the kidneys. PharmGKB lists a single low-rated finding, on allergic reactions. There is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
