Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.
Vardenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor: it blocks the enzyme that breaks down cyclic GMP, so the relaxing signal from nitric oxide in the blood vessels of the penis lasts longer. It is used for erectile dysfunction, as tablets or melt-in-the-mouth tablets. Together with nitrate heart medicines it can make blood pressure fall dangerously. It is sold as Levitra and Staxyn.
Vardenafil is broken down mainly by CYP3A4, with CYP3A5 contributing, so CYP3A4 blockers raise its levels markedly. The gene study listed looked at CYP3A5 for its levels. The evidence is weak, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
