Nicardipine is a calcium channel blocker of the dihydropyridine group that relaxes the muscle of artery walls. Given by drip in hospital, it lowers blood pressure quickly and adjustably in hypertensive emergencies, during surgery and after strokes; as capsules it treats high blood pressure and angina. It is sold as Cardene.
Nicardipine is broken down mainly by CYP3A4, CYP2C8 and CYP2D6. The gene studies listed looked at CACNA1B, a calcium channel gene, for blood pressure response. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
