Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Muraglitazar

What it is

Muraglitazar was an experimental dual PPAR-alpha and PPAR-gamma agonist, designed to improve both blood sugar and blood fats in type 2 diabetes. Development stopped in 2006 after an analysis of its trials showed more heart attacks, strokes and heart failure, and it was never marketed.

How genes come into it

The few gene studies on muraglitazar came from its clinical trials and looked at ADRB1, EDN1 and REN, genes of blood pressure and fluid balance, for fluid retention (oedema), a known side effect of PPAR-gamma agonists. The findings come from a single study. There is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
