Etravirine (Intelence)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Etravirine

What it is

Etravirine is a second-generation NNRTI, an HIV medicine that binds reverse transcriptase flexibly enough to work against many viruses resistant to efavirenz and nevirapine. It is used with other HIV medicines in people whose virus has developed resistance. It is sold as Intelence.

How genes come into it

Etravirine is broken down by CYP3A4, CYP2C9 and CYP2C19. The gene study listed linked CYP2C19 (and CYP2C9) variants to its levels, with slower versions giving higher exposure. The evidence is weak, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
