Dulaglutide (Trulicity)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Dulaglutide

What it is

Dulaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist, a GLP-1-like peptide joined to part of an antibody so it lasts a week. It mimics the gut hormone GLP-1, so the pancreas releases insulin when blood sugar is high, stomach emptying slows and appetite falls. It is injected weekly for type 2 diabetes, where it also lowers the chance of heart attack and stroke. It is sold as Trulicity.

How genes come into it

As a protein, dulaglutide is broken down like other proteins, not by liver enzymes. A study linked variants in GLP1R, the receptor it acts on, and ARRB1, a protein involved in the receptor's signalling, to how much blood sugar and weight fell. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
