Dasatinib (Sprycel)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Dasatinib

What it is

Dasatinib is a targeted cancer medicine, a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor that blocks BCR-ABL and SRC family kinases. It is used for chronic myeloid leukaemia (first line or after imatinib) and for Philadelphia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Fluid around the lungs is a known side effect. It is sold as Sprycel.

How genes come into it

Whether dasatinib works depends on the BCR-ABL fusion and its mutations in the leukaemia cells, which are acquired, not inherited. For inherited genes, dasatinib is broken down by CYP3A4 and studies looked at the transporter ABCG2. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
