Apatinib (rivoceranib) is a targeted cancer medicine, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor that selectively blocks VEGFR-2, the main receptor tumours use to grow new blood vessels. It is approved in China for advanced stomach cancer and liver cancer, and is studied in other cancers; it is not approved in Europe or the US. It is sold as Aitan in China.
Apatinib is broken down mainly by CYP3A4, with help from CYP2D6, CYP2C9 and CYP2E1. The few gene studies on it, from China, looked at CYP2C9 and CYP3A5 variants for its blood levels. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
