Ulinastatin

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Ulinastatin

What it is

Ulinastatin is a protease inhibitor protein purified from human urine (urinary trypsin inhibitor). It blocks trypsin and other enzymes released in inflammation. It is used by injection in Japan, China, Korea and India for acute pancreatitis, sepsis and circulatory shock, and during some surgeries; it is not approved in Europe or the US.

How genes come into it

As a protein, ulinastatin is not handled by drug-processing enzymes. The few gene studies listed, from China, looked at MMP2 and MMP9, enzymes that break down tissue during inflammation, for how well it worked. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

What research found

Every published finding on gene variants and Ulinastatin. Upload your DNA file to see which of these rows apply to you.

Response (2 findings)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

MMP2 rs243865: Allele T is associated with decreased response to ulinastatin in people with Pancreatitis as compared to allele C.

MMP9 rs3918242: Allele T is associated with increased response to ulinastatin in people with Pancreatitis as compared to allele C.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
