Trandolapril is a long-acting ACE inhibitor: it blocks angiotensin-converting enzyme, so less angiotensin II is made, blood vessels relax and the body holds less salt. It is used for high blood pressure and after a heart attack in people with reduced heart function, and combined with verapamil (Tarka). It is sold as Mavik and Gopten, among other names.
Trandolapril is a prodrug activated by liver esterases into trandolaprilat. The gene studies listed, from the large INVEST blood pressure trial, looked at PTPRD and a CES1 pseudogene region for blood pressure response. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.
