About CHOP Chemo Regimen

What it is

CHOP is a chemotherapy combination of cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin (hydroxydaunorubicin), vincristine (Oncovin) and prednisone, given in three-weekly cycles. With the antibody rituximab added (R-CHOP), it is the standard first treatment for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma and is used for other non-Hodgkin lymphomas.

How genes come into it

The few gene studies listed for CHOP looked at CBR3, an enzyme that turns doxorubicin into a breakdown product linked to heart damage, and at the transporter ABCC2, for response and side effects. The findings come from a few studies, and there is no CPIC or DPWG guideline for the regimen or its medicines.
