Atezolizumab (Tecentriq)

Raw research findings for this medication. Mostly single studies, not curated or confirmed robust.

About Atezolizumab

What it is

Atezolizumab is an immune checkpoint inhibitor, a monoclonal antibody that blocks PD-L1, a protein tumours use to switch off attacking T cells. Given by drip, it is used for lung cancer (including small cell lung cancer), liver cancer with bevacizumab, bladder cancer and some other cancers. Immune-related side effects can affect many organs. It is sold as Tecentriq.

How genes come into it

As an antibody, atezolizumab is not broken down by drug-processing enzymes. The gene study listed looked at IL7, linked in a large study to immune side effects of checkpoint inhibitors. Whether it is used depends on features of the tumour, such as PD-L1 levels, tested on tumour tissue. There is no CPIC or DPWG guideline.

Response (1 finding)

Studies of how well it worked in people carrying a variant.

IL7 rs16906115: Genotype AA is associated with decreased clinical benefit to atezolizumab and bevacizumab in people with Carcinoma, Hepatocellular as compared to genotypes AG + GG.

Study findings and evidence levels: PharmGKB (CC BY-SA 4.0). Guidelines: CPIC and DPWG, as bundled in PharmCAT. Most studies were done mainly in people of European ancestry.
